Your pet’s weight has a direct effect on their overall health. Some pets experience weight problems due to nutrition, lifestyle and sometimes medical issues. Whether your pet is overweight or underweight we are prepared to give you the recommendations to get them to a healthy weight. We are experts at creating weight management programs unique to your pet’s lifestyle to help them achieve results.
How do I know if my pet is overweight?
Weight problems are very common in cats and dogs as it’s not easy for pet parents to differentiate between a few extra pounds and obesity. You’ll know your pet is overweight if they have gotten wider or rounder in their belly area. When you notice your loyal companion becoming heavier, you should have a veterinarian examine them. We can check your pet’s weight and identify, based on their age and breed, their ideal healthy weight. To schedule an appointment for your loyal companion, please call us at 519-763-1082.
Why should my overweight pet lose weight?
Being overweight means that your loyal companion is more likely to develop medical conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, high blood pressure, urinary bladder disease and diabetes. With prompt veterinary attention they can lose weight in a safe way and reduce the effects and damage their weight may cause.
How is my pet’s progress monitored?
At our hospital we offer free veterinary consultations to furry friends who need to get started on their weight loss journey. From the consultation we customize a weight loss plan and provide recommendations. Our team will set up bi-weekly weigh-ins and provide photos and graphs to document their progress. At the 3 and 6 month mark we schedule an additional consultation with a veterinarian to discuss what’s working at home and suggest different ways to motivate your pet.
