Laser therapy is one of many services our hospital offers. When your pet is experiencing pain and inflammation, laser therapy may be recommended. This form of treatment is favoured because it is drug-free, non-invasive and harmless. It’s a great alternative and addition to ongoing treatments especially for pets that are already on medication or too weak for surgery. How does laser therapy work?

Laser therapy uses a light to penetrate deep into your pet’s cells. A laser is aimed at targeted areas of the body that need healing. When the light is absorbed it causes changes in the cell which restores energy, promotes healing and other body processes.

When would laser therapy be useful for my pet?

Laser therapy is often recommended to encourage healing in pets. It is drug-free and completely painless which is why our team may refer it to your pet if they are suffering from:

  1. Arthritis
  2. Cellulitis
  3. Hip dysplasia
  4. Sinusitis
  5. Neurological Issues
  6. Hair loss
  7. Open cuts/surgical wounds
  8. Allergies
  9. Tendon, muscle and ligament injury

How many sessions of laser therapy will my pet need?

Our veterinarians will determine how many sessions of therapy your pet needs. It all depends on the severity of your pet’s condition and how well they respond to their treatment. Typically we see improvement in pets after three sessions. We always schedule follow-up consultations to monitor your pet’s progress.

Is laser therapy safe for my pet?

Yes, this form of therapy is safe for your pet. Your pet’s safety is always considered during each session and we provide them with sunglasses to protect their eyes from the light.
