Parasite Control and Prevention

When it comes to parasites the sooner you prevent them the better it is for your pet. Your loyal companion needs to be protected from parasites all year round as they are always at risk. At our hospital we’ve created prevention plans unique to the patient’s lifestyle. Prevention medication can be given orally or in topical ointments and your veterinarian can share tips on how to get your furry friend to take their medication.

What kind of parasites does my pet need protection from?

Our parasite prevention medication protects your loyal companion from worms which affect your pet’s internal system and other critters that can cause external infections. The parasites that your pet needs protection from are:

  • Heartworms
  • Ringworms
  • Whipworms
  • Roundworms
  • Tapeworms
  • Mites
  • Ticks
  • Fleas

What are signs of parasites?

As soon as you notice any signs of a parasitic infection you should contact your veterinarian. Leaving parasites to disappear on their own puts your pet in extreme danger. Some parasites can cause death if left untreated. Here are the signs you should look for:

  1. Sudden weight loss
  2. Diarrhea
  3. Swollen belly
  4. Hair loss
  5. Itching and scratching
  6. Protruding lumps
  7. Vomiting

If your loyal companion is showing any of these signs, have a veterinarian examine them today. Please call us at 519-763-1082 to schedule an appointment.

Does my pet need parasite prevention if they are healthy?

Yes! Preventing an infection is much easier than treating one. Parasites are contagious and your pet can catch them at any time. Even if your pet stays indoors it’s possible that parasites can get inside your home and infect your pet. There is no way to guarantee your pet won’t be exposed to parasites, so protection is the best option.
