Microchips are permanent small computer chips used to reunite you with your pet. The chips are implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades. A microchip is not a tracker for your pet, once they are inserted you upload your contact information to a database. We strongly encourage you to keep your contact information updated so you can be reached if your lost pet is found by someone else.
Why should I microchip my pet?
It is impossible to predict when your pet will be out of your sight. A microchip never leaves your pet’s body. While physical ID tags can break or be removed from your pet a microchip is useful for the rest of their life without needing any repair. If a lost pet collar or ID tag is not present a humane society or veterinary clinic will always check for a microchip. Once the chip is located, your contact information can be retrieved from the pet recovery database.
Is microchipping painful?
Implanting the chip will feel like a pinch to your pet. Because microchips are so small the procedure itself is over within a few minutes and causes little to no discomfort, your pet won’t even need anesthesia.
When should I have my pet microchipped?
